The Junior Open we thought may not happen in 2020

With great caution we took the decision to run our Junior open at Colne Valley Golf Club on Sunday. It proved to be a popular decision and 84 juniors took part which was an amazing turnout. It was great to see everyone at the club and there was a superb atmosphere. All of the Covid-19 guidelines were followed to make the Open safe with the all important social distancing followed.
As always there were some brilliant scores, Clacton’s Golf Club’s Cameron Curtis won the 0-18 category 1st prize with a brilliant score of 42 points. Braintree’s Pip Stringer won the 19-36 handicap category also with 42 points. Runner up spots in the 2 categories went to Mia Barningham (41pts) and Freddie Rusbridge (40pts). Other prize winners included Josh Gemmell (41pts), Rosie Boyce (39pts), Caitlin Abercromby (38pts) & Maximus Maddocks (36pts).
Our thanks go to Jayne and James Barningham, Karen Charles, Cynthia Hollingsworth and Peter Ragus who helped with signing in, starting off the 1st and 10th holes and ball spotting. We were also pleased that the Captain’s Pearl Powell and Phil Reeve where able to attend our prize giving.

We hope to be able to run our 2nd Open at Frinton in October which we hope will be equally as successful.
