In association with the Golf Foundation, Coastal Golf in the Community runs community links projects, which involve offering golf in schools and then giving children the opportunity to take part in golfing activities at their local golf clubs. This gives the children a pathway to start playing regularly, and potentially, becoming junior golf club members.
Coaching in Primary schools is conducted with the use of the Tri Golf equipment, which is a 'mini' version of golf designed specifically for young children. In 2012 each of the local primary schools will be offered the chance to run Tri Golf as an afterschool club where the children attend a 4 week course with the last lesson being at their local golf club. To find out more about golf in your child’s school, please click here and tell us which school they attend.
Golf Xtreme is the new golf game for teenagers, designed to be implemented in secondary schools. It combines some of the best parts of the traditional sport – hitting balls a long way at interesting targets – with scoring systems you can create yourself and team games that include everyone.
Coastal Golf in the Community will be offering pupils at secondary schools Golf Xtreme classes, to give them the opportunity to experience golf and to find potential golf students for the forthcoming golf diploma programme which started in September 2009. Please click here for more information on when Golf Xtreme sessions will be held at your school.
Coastal Golf in the Community is working with Colne College to offer a Golf Academy, open to school leavers who show the potential to become elite golfers and who are able combine studies as part of the programme. The academy will provide quality education and golf coaching to realise players' true potential. Students will study the BTEC national certificate in sport, equivalent to two or three A levels of their choice.
In addition students will be offered the chance to take there level 1 coaching certificate. The college day will consist of 2-3 hours of golf coaching which will develop all aspects of the student's game. The aim is not only to give quality coaching but to give an understanding of the career opportunities within the golf industry.
